PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland (AP) Lee Westwood's relaxed approach to the British Open had its ups and downs on Saturday - up to the top of leaderboard on the front nine and down a rabbit hole on the back.

The 46-year-old Englishman, who would be the second-oldest champion at golf's oldest major after Old Tom Morris if he won this week at Royal Portrush, birdied three of the first four holes on the Dunluce Links. Schauffele: R&A tried to ruin my image

PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland (AP) Xander Schauffele was still running hot Saturday in the British Open, and it had nothing to do with a 69 that left him 11 shots out of the lead at Royal Portrush.

Schauffele accused the R&A of trying to ruin his image by not keeping private that his Callaway driver failed to conform to the limits of the trampoline effect. He says one player jokingly referred to him as a cheater, and he claimed he was not the only player whose driver didn't pass in random testing this week. Read More...

Clanton, Suwannapura win LPGA team event

MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) Cydney Clanton and Jasmine Suwannapura ran away with the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational on Saturday, shooting an 11-under 59 in best-ball play for a six-stroke victory.

Clanton and Suwannapura took a five-shot lead into the final round after shooting an alternate-shot 63 on Friday at Midland Country Club in the LPGA Tour's first-year team event. They finished at 27-under 253. Read More...

Herman shoots 10 under, leads Barbasol

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (AP) Helped by President Donald Trump's putting advice, Jim Herman had two eagles in a 10-under 62 to maintain a one-stroke lead Saturday in the PGA Tour's Barbasol Championship.

"I haven't been playing bad, I just haven't been rolling the ball very well," Herman said. "So, to start seeing the balls go in, that's a confidence-booster. You feel like you can make anything." Read More...
